The T20 World Cup 2022 was arguably the finest edition of the World Cup to date due to the competitiveness between teams, close matches and upsets by lower-ranked teams. It got down to the wire on the last day of the Super 12 stage when teams managed to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament. Many players impressed with their consistency, resilience and attacking mindset to see their respective teams win crunch moments. Here are a few of those players, who made their mark in the Best XI of the T20 World Cup 2022. 1. Jos Buttler (c & wk) England captain Jos Buttler had a terrific T20 World Cup campaign, where he led the team into the finals. He started the tournament with a knock of 0 and 18 against Afghanistan and Ireland respectively. But the 32-year-old made a terrific turnaround by returning to form with a knock of 73 against New Zealand in a must-win game. The semi-finals against India witnessed him scoring 80* off 49 balls, wherein he paced his innings to perfection. Buttler then slammed 26 off 17 in the final against Pakistan to provide a quick start to the team, which eventually helped the team to win the tournament. #PAGE_BREAK#2. Alex Hales Hales came into this tournament as a replacement for Jonny Bairstow and proved his mettle in the tournament. Just like Buttler, he did not deliver his best against Ireland and Afghanistan with knocks of 19 and 7 respectively. However, the half-century against the Kiwi attack brought his confidence back in his abilities. He then came up with an innings of 47 against the Lankan side to pave way for England to reach the semi-finals. In the penultimate clash against India, Hales unleashed his best to slam 86* off 47 balls. Virat Kohli The Indian stalwart made an impression in the first game itself, wherein he returned with a knock of 82* off 53 against Pakistan. This was probably his best T20I knock to date, wherein his composure and late blitz were sensational. He then remained unbeaten on 62* off 44 balls against the Netherlands. The game against South Africa and Zimbabwe witnessed Kohli contributing only 12 and 26 respectively. In the semi-finals against the English team, the elegant batter scored 50 off 40. In six innings, he amassed 296 runs in six innings at an average of 98.66, and was the top run-getter in the tournament. #PAGE_BREAK# 4. Suryakumar Yadav The No. 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav was impressive throughout the tournament with his ability to hit shots all around the park. He managed to score 239 runs in six innings at an average of 59.75 and a lavish strike rate of 189.68. The best knock came against South Africa, wherein he returned with 68 off 40, when all the other batters struggled. SKY remained unbeaten on 51* off 25 balls against the Dutch team. The Zimbabwe game was a show-stealer for him, as he slammed 61* off 25 and etched his name into the hearts of cricket fanatics. However, he could contribute 14 against the Three Lions in the semi-finals.#PAGE_BREAK# 5. Mohammad Haris Mohammad Haris was brought into the team in place of the injured Fakhar Zaman. He was terrific in the first game against South Africa with his aggressive mindset, scoring 28 off 11 balls, and hitting sixes to the bowlers like Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada. Haris then scored a quickfire 31 against Bangladesh, which helped the team to release the pressure and seal the knock-out spot. In the semi-finals against the Kiwi side, the youngster played a composed knock of 30. The finals saw him scoring 8, and completing 97 runs in four games. #PAGE_BREAK# 6. Glenn Phillips The player with his exquisite ball-striking abilities scored 201 runs in five outings in the T20 World Cup 2022. His finest knock of 104 off 64 came against Sri Lanka, which helped New Zealand to win by 65 runs. He then delivered a knock of 62 off 36 balls against England in a losing cause, but his knock made sure the team maintains a healthy net run rate to qualify for the semi-finals. He ended the tournament with a knock of 6 against Pakistan. #PAGE_BREAK# 7. Shadab Khan Shadab Khan was sensational with his contributions, and certainly marked himself as one of the best performers. He was the joint-highest wicket-taker for Pakistan with 11 wickets in seven games and also scoring 98 runs. Shadab scored a match-winning 52 off 22 against South Africa, which played a key role to take them to the knock-outs. Sikandar Raza Zimbabwe’s best all-round performer deserves this place due to his heroics to help the team reach the Super 12 stage. His best performance was 82 with the bat while finishing with 3/19 against West Indies. In the Super 12 game against Pakistan, Sikandar picked important wickets to finish with 3/25 and caused an upset. He slammed 219 runs and scalped 10 wickets in eight games and will be the number eight batter. #PAGE_BREAK# 9. Haris Rauf The tearway pacer has been the consistent wicket-taker in white-ball cricket for Pakistan. In this tournament, he finished with eight wickets in seven games at an economy of 6.84. Barring Kohli’s twin sixes off him, Rauf was terrific to finish with 2/36 against India. He then was economical against Zimbabwe and the Netherlands, while picking a solitary wicket each. In the finals against England, he finished with 2/23 in four overs and bowled his heart out, rather in a losing cause. #PAGE_BREAK# 10. Arshdeep Singh Arshdeep was terrific in the tournament with his capability to swing the ball both ways. He shone brightly in the powerplay overs and picked consistent wickets to put the opposition in the backfoot. The left-arm pacer emerged as India’s leading wicket-taker with 10 scalps in six games. The 23-year-old got the wickets of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan against Pakistan and finished with figures of 3/32. He then chipped in to take a couple of wickets every game, while taking a solitary dismissal against Zimbabwe. However, he ended the tournament with figures of 0/15 against England. #PAGE_BREAK# 11. Sam Curran Sam Curran was England’s finest performer with the ball in the T20 World Cup 2022. He took 5/10 against Afghanistan and became the first bowler from the country to take a five-wicket haul in the T20 WC. Curran then returned with figures of 2/31 and 2/26 against Ireland and New Zealand respectively. Although he went wicket-less against India in the semi-finals, he was terrific in the final against Pakistan. He finished with figures of 3/12 in four overs and helped England to win the title. He then was chosen the Player of the Tournament as well.
