Australia Head Coach, Andrew McDonald on Tuesday, December 24 shared a big update on their squad for the fourth Test against India of the ongoing five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series. The update from the Aussie head coach comes after Cricket Australia (CA) named 15-member squad for the final two Tests against India of the series on Friday, December 20.

In a notable move, Sam Konstas was added into the side, replacing Nathan McSweeney, who had a mixed outing in his debut series. Moreover, CA also added Jhye Richardson to the side with Josh Hazlewood being ruled out of the remainder of BGT 2024-25 with injury concerns.

Sam Konstas set to debut for Australia in fourth BGT Test; Travis Head doubtful

Speaking to the media ahead of the Boxing Day Test, Head Coach Andrew McDonald confirmed debut for 19-year-old youngster, Sam Konstas. McDonald praised Konstas' temperament and ability to counterattack. "He's composed, relaxed, and has shown an array of shots. What stood out was his ability to put pressure back on opponents," he said.

"He's in a good place with his game at the moment, so he'll play on Boxing Day," McDonald told reporters at the MCG. "What he's demonstrated is a wide range of shots and the ability to put pressure back on the opposition. He gets his opportunity, and we're really excited for him. Boxing Day, the biggest stage—he might as well get that one out of the way early," the Aussie Head Coach further added.

With Konstas set to be included in the XI, he will become the 468th Australian men’s Test cricketer. Moreover, he will also become the youngest Australian Test debutant since Pat Cummins in 2011, along with being the youngest-ever opener and fourth youngest debutant when he steps out to play at MCG. On the other hand, Australia are yet to share an update on Travis Head, who is struggling with squad strain since the third BGT Test in Gabba.
