Mithali Raj has appreciated Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Meg Lanning’s batting effort against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 13th match of the WPL 2025 played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Following the low target of 124, Delhi openers Lanning and Shafali Verma delivered an explosive start to their side and built a rapid 85-run partnership off just 9.5 overs. Verma lost her wicket while attacking Amanjot Kaur but Lanning showcased batting mettle and took her team home to register a comprehensive nine-wicket victory. Former Australia captain walked back with her unbeaten 60 off 49. Following this triumph, Delhi recorded their fourth win and succeeded in maintaining the top spot on the points table.
Impressed by the opening duo of Lanning and Shafali, Mithali said whenever both batters stitch more than 50 runs together while opening, Delhi’s chances of getting success soar sharply. Appearing on JioHotstar, former India captain remarked, "Every time Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma put together a 50-plus partnership, the team's chances of winning increases significantly. The winning percentage for Delhi Capitals rises with their contributions. Today, while chasing a target of 124, we saw Shafali Verma take a slightly more measured approach initially, which is unlike her usual attacking style. There was a lot of discussion between her and Meg Lanning, especially while facing Shabnim Ismail. However, once she found her rhythm, and Meg Lanning joined in, it was a delight to watch them score from both ends. It was a very convincing win for Delhi Capitals."
DC will look to beat RCB to reach the playoffs
After passing the Mumbai challenge, DC are looking to get the better of defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the ongoing match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The victory against the Smriti Mandhana-led team will fortify Delhi’s chances to advance for the playoffs. Both sides squared off against each other previously in the fourth game of this competition and the Challengers emerged victorious by eight wickets.
As of writing, DC are 106/2 in 15 overs after being put to bat first. Ellyse Perry has racked up an unbeaten 52 off 40 while Raghvi Bisht, who is supporting her Aussie colleague in the middle, is at her score of an unbeaten 22 off 25. Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey have bagged one wicket each.
