On Monday, 3 April 2023, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings registered their first victory of the season. The victory came on the back of superb batting from openers Rituraj Gaikwad and Devon Conway. In support, Mooen Ali, who didn't get to bowl in the last game, bowled superbly well and took 4 crucial wickets and gave away mere 26 runs. In the end, Chennai Super Kings registered a 12-run win at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

At one stage, 218-run target was looking unachievable. However, credit to Kyle Mayers and Nicholas Pooran, both batted extremely well to get their team near to the target. Between this, the Chennai bowlers bowled a lot of no balls which made Captain Cool lose his cool. In total, the Chennai bowlers bowled 13 wides and 3 no balls.
