Premier League giants Chelsea faced a disappointing defeat in their UEFA Champions League opener against Croatian Football club Dinamo Zagreb last night. In a shocking development, Chelsea Football Club have sacked head coach Thomas Tuchel following Tuesday's UCL defeat.
In its released statement, Chelsea club revealed that the new ownership group believes it is the right time to make the transition.
"The new Chelsea's coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach," read the statement.
Chelsea opened the game with striking attacks as forwards Raheem Sterling, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz combined on a couple of occasions to create quality chances but the former's shoot was blocked by the goalkeeper.
However, Zagreb pulled a counter-attack in the 13th minute as left-winger Mislav Oršić raced past Chelsea defenders towards the goal and scored home with a sublime finish. Chelsea, afterwards, dominated the game in terms of possession and scoring attempts but couldn't find the back of the net.
With the transfers of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Denis Zakaria, Chelsea spent a record £272 million during the 2022 summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, defending champions Real Madrid and Premier League champions Manchester City comfortably won their respective games against Celtic and Sevilla while Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain defeated Italian giants Juventus in UCL group stage on Tuesd ay.
