The Brisbane International is set to return for the first time since 2020. According to Tennis Australia, the tennis tournament will be played as a warm-up event of Australian Open 2024. Notably, Brisbane International was first played in 2009, and since then, names like Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Andy Murray, and more have emerged as winners of it in different editions.

However, after the introduction of ATP Cup in 2019, this tennis tournament was dropped off the men's tour in the same year. It was in 2020, when the last women’s event was played, where Karolína Pliskova emerged as the winner. As per the latest developments, the tournament will feature 180-world class players, who will compete for a prize pool of USD 2 million.

The women’s singles event will feature a total of 48 players, whereas the men’s singles event will feature 32 players. Welcoming the decision, former tennis player Ash Barty said, “The players love to come here, they love the atmosphere. For me it was a court filled with so many happy memories of coming back and training here and learning my craft.”

Meanwhile, the tournament director Cam Pearson said that the upcoming edition will be “bigger and better than ever”. Pearson said, “We know how much the players love playing the Brisbane International and starting the season in Queensland. Fans can look forward to eight days of high-quality international tennis, an expanded women’s draw, and 180 of the world’s best players competing for a big prize pool. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
