Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reacted to his six titles gesture being compared to Jose Mourinho. He insisted that he is not losing cool like the former Chelsea and Man United boss. Notably, Guardiola made it to the headlines earlier this week when he raised his six fingers during Manchester City’s 0-2 loss against Liverpool in Premier League. After the final whistle, the Spaniard repeated the gesture seemingly reminding the Liverpool fans about the six titles he has won with City.
After his gesture, several comparisons were made between the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager and Mourinho. Earlier in 2018, during Manchester United’s 0-3 home league defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, the former Chelsea manager raised three fingers as well as demanded respect. Recently, during a pre-match press conference, Guardiola was asked about the gesture as well as the comparisons between him and Mourinho.
But he won three, I won six: Pep Guardiola on his six titles gesture
Clarifying his gesture and reacting to the constant comparisons, Guardiola told Yahoo!Sports, "I was never cool. I was only cool because we won. When you don't win, it's completely the opposite. I hope [it's] not [the beginning of the end] in my case. Maybe we are similar like Jose, but he won three and I won six!"
He added, “We are together in those situations. It was just to make our fans feel that what we have done is extraordinary. I want to prove that we are an incredible football club. Sooner or later, it's going to be the end but I will try to extend as much as possible for the best of my club." Notably, City are currently on the fifth spot of the Premier League standings and are set to be up against Nottingham Forest on December 4 at the Etihad Stadium.
