The former India captain, Virat Kohli on Sunday, November 5 equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries in India’s win over South Africa at ODI World Cup 2023. The batting great’s century knock helped the side register their eighth consecutive win in the marquee event, to firm their position at the top of the points table with a 243-run win over South Africa.

Apart from a crucial knock, the Indian batting great, Virat Kohli also celebrated his 35th  birthday on November 5. While he garnered wishes from all over on his birthday, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) also celebrated this special day with the man himself by presenting Kohli with a gold-plated bat as momento. Pictures of the same has been doing rounds.

Talking about the match between India and South Africa, the Men in Blue posted 326/5 in their 50 over inning after opting to bat first. While skipper Rohit Sharma gave a quick start up the order, brilliant partnership between Virat Kohli (101) and Shreyas Iyer (77) helped the side put a formidable total on the board against a strong looking side in South Africa. However, a five-wicket haul from Ravindra Jadeja (5/33), along with crucial wickets from Shami, Kuldeep and Siraj helped the hosts bundle out the Proteas at 83 in 27.1 overs.

The Men in Blue, however, have sealed the semifinals berth, will take on the Netherlands at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on November 12.
