The Pakistan vs India Super 4s clash went for more that 32 hours with the first day being washed out and the match going into the reserve day. Luckily the weather was on the side this time as a full 50-over match was a witness. It is to be noted, India’s first Asia Cup Group A fixture, which also happened to against arch-rivals Pakistan was called off with rain playing a spoilsport. Their second match also saw over being cut down against Nepal.

In what is called the ‘greatest rivalry’ saw India register a record win, triumphing with more than 220 runs. While the match saw both KL Rahul and Virat Kohli stitch a 233-run partnership, highest in Asia Cup, the latter was also awarded with the Player of the Match award for his brilliant run.

However, this gesture did not seem to have gone down well with the former Indian cricketer and World Cup winning star Gautam Gambhir. The 41-year-old felt that it should have been Kuldeep Yadav for his blistering five-wicket haul on a ground where the ball was seaming, swinging.

“Can’t look beyond Kuldeep Yadav. Yes, Virat Kohli has got a 100, KL Rahul got a 100, Rohit Sharma got a 50, Shubman Gill got a 50. On a wicket like this where it was swinging, seaming, if someone can get five wicket in seven overs, it’s brilliant,” Gambhir said.

The former Indian cricketer-turned commentator, who has been part of the commentary panel with Star Sports, further added that Pakistan batters also could not play Kuldeep this time. “More importantly, I was surprised that Pakistan batters, who traditionally play spin really well, could not pick Kuldeep from his hand,” Gambhir further added.

Talking about the wrist spinner’s performance, Kuldeep Yadav bagged his second ODI five-wicket haul. He finished with the figures of 5/25 in his eight overs.
