Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has been ruled out of action for upwards to six weeks due to an injury he had picked up while playing for Denmark during the international break last month. Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic manager, confirmed that the 38-year-old will be missing up to seven matches for the club, which could mean that he returns to competition in the middle of next month in a Scottish Premiership fixture.

Notably, the injury happened to Kasper Schmeichel when Denmark suffered a 5-2 defeat in the second leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-final against Portugal last month, which led to them getting eliminated from the competition with a 5-3 aggregate scoreline. In the ongoing season of club football, the Dane has been one of the vital members of Celtic, playing a whopping 46 matches with two months still remaining in the ongoing season.

Certainly in the immediate future he won't be available: Rodgers on Schmeichel

When asked about the latest on Kasper Schmeichel’s fitness, Brendon Rodgers was quoted as saying to Celtic TV, as per BBC Sport, “This is just something that, day by day, we'll have a look at, but the timeline that was given to us was maybe around about that. Kasper tends to think it might not be as long as that, but certainly in the immediate future he won't be available.”

In place of Kasper Schmeichel, Viljami Sinisalo played for Celtic during their 3-0 win in the Scottish Premiership against Heart of Midlothian last weekend. Apart from missing the entirety of action in April, which will include league games, he also won’t be around for the Scottish Cup semi-final against St Johnstone at Hampden Park on April 20, while his first match back could happen in a mid-week clash next month in the Scottish Premiership.
