President of India, Draupadi Murmu and several celebrities from different disciplines and sphere extended their support to Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat following her Paris Olympics 2024 disqualification. On August 7, Wednesday, Phogat was declared disqualified before her final clash of the Olympics 2024 against USA’s Sarah Ann Hildebrandt. On the morning of her gold medal fight, Phogat failed to meet the weight requirement.
The IOA released an official statement and said, “It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh’s privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand.”
Following her major heartbreak, President of India, Draupadi Murmu and several celebrities from several disciplines rallied support to Phogat. Murmu tweeted, " Vinesh Phogat’s extraordinary feats at the Paris Olympics have thrilled every Indian and done the country proud. While we all share her disappointment at the disqualification, she remains a champion in the hearts of 1.4 billion people. Vinesh embodies the truly indefatigable spirit of Indian women, and her epic fortitude and resilience are already inspiring future world champions from India. I wish her many laurels in the future."
