There has been a lot of debate over Jasprit Bumrah’s back injury during the Sydney Test against Australia. Notably, the Indian pacer had to walk out during the first innings of the Test match due to back spasm and couldn’t return to bowl in the second innings. This has also raised concerns among Indian fans with the 2025 Champions Trophy around the corner and the BCCI medical team is constantly monitoring his recovery. However, Ramji Srinivasan, who is a former strength and condition coach of the Indian team, has advised the team management not to take any risk and don’t include Bumrah in the squad for the mega evet if there is an ‘slightest doubt.’

The 2025 Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Pakistan and Dubai starting on February. India will play their all matches in Dubai and kickstart their campaign with a match against Bangladesh on February 20. “Bumrah is a treasure and he should be handled with care. A CT is not the end of the world. If there is the slightest doubt, he shouldn’t be in the squad. Five back-to-back Test matches isn’t something he has ever played in his cricketing career," Srinivasan was quoted as saying by News18.

If it is only spasms, Bumrah should be fit: Ramji Srinivasan

Speaking further, Ramji Srinivasan also said that Jasprit Bumrah will not taken much time for recovery if his injury is only limited to back spasm. The former trainer also feels that the Indian pacer could take up to six months to recover if his injury is related to stress frature which could be a result of playing too much cricket.

“I agree that if it is only spasms, he should be fit. In fact, he might be feeling alright even before he boarded the flight back home. But I am not so sure about it. The injury is related to stress, which is a direct result of playing too much cricket. If it is anything between a Grade 1 to Grade 3 injury related to stress fracture, it can take up to one to six months of recovery," Ramji Srinivasan said.
