Star Indian shuttler, Chirag Shetty, who partners with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy in the men’s doubles, have been out of competitive action after their quarterfinal exit from the 2024 Paris Olympics in July-August. Shetty, who featured at an event organised by the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, revealed the duo’s likely return to competitive action.

Shetty, who gained world number one ranking alongside Rankireddy, revealed that the latter is recovering from an injury, thus delaying their return in competitive tournaments. Speaking of their campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the duo bowed out of the competition with a 21-13, 14-21, 16-21 loss in the quarterfinals.

We will return next month: Chirag Shetty

Speaking on the sidelines of an event organised by the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, Chirag Shetty told ANI, “My partner is injured currently, we will start soon and make our plan. Hoepfully, we will return next month as Satwik is undergoing rehab.” Chirag, who is hopeful of getting several laurels for India, also opened up on their future plans.

“We wanted to win a medal in the Paris Olympics but that was not to be. But never say never. We have won almost every medal except for an Olympic medal. We would also like to win gold in the World Championships,” Chirag added. He also highlighted the partnership with former coach Mathias Boe, with whom the duo went on to win Asian Games gold medal, along with registering victory at the Thomas Cup. “I want to win every medal the sport has to offer before I retire. When we started working with him, we were ranked eighth or ninth in the world. Journey from there to number one spot, winning Asian Games gold, Thomas Cup, was a very fruitful journey. Sad we could not continue our partnership, but things have to end at some point,” the Indian shuttler further added.
