Former UFC champion Conor McGregor raised his voice for women athletes and called on sporting organisations. McGregor opined that female athletes should be paid more after Forbes released the list of the highest female earners of the year. The UFC star previously became the first MMA star to top the male athlete earnings in 2021, where he generated a total wealth of $180 million between May 2020 to May 2021. Interestingly, the Irishman had only fought once during that time and he lost to Dustin Poirier.

McGregor had opted to sell his shares in the Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey brand, that guaranteed him the top spot in the standings. Forbes, in their latest article, released the list of “The World’s Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2023”. According to the list, Polish tennis star Iga Świątek, who earned $23.9 million in the last year, became the highest-paid female athlete in the passing year. The list has a total of nine players from tennis in its top 10.

After Forbes posted the list on their X account, McGregor responded to it by calling out the organisations. ‘The Notorious' reposted the tweet on his account and said that women athletes deserve to get more compensation. The 35-year-old tweeted, “Women deserve to be paid more." Talking about the fighter’s career, McGregor last fought for the promotion back in 2021 when he clashed against Dustin Poirier in a trilogy bout.

During that bout, McGregor suffered a freak leg injury and had to undergo surgery. Earlier this year, the Dublin-born returned to screens to coach opposite Michael Chandler on The Ultimate Fighter. He is expected to make a return to the octagon in 2024.
