The 2024 Copa America draws are finally on the books with the USA being hosts for this time. The draws for the upcoming tournament took place on December 8, Friday (IST), and saw the hosts in a group with Uruguay while the fellow hosts Mexico are set to lock horns with Ecuador. The reigning champions Argentina are set to lock horns with two-time title winners Peru in the group stage. Brazil, who are placed in the fourth group will take on Colombia, who are the 2021 third-place finisher.
The tournament will have a total of 16 teams, which include six Concacaf invitees, 2023-24 Nations League semifinalists Mexico, the U.S., Jamaica, and Panama. The USA have been placed in Group C with Uruguay, Panama, and Bolívia. The top two teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals. If the U.S. advances, it will lock horns with Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Costa Rica, or Honduras.
Group B has Mexico being joined by Ecuador, Venezuela, and Jamaica. Mexico's Jaime Lozano on the draws said, "A well-balanced group. I think that all the opponents are in a good moment. Jamaica entered the [Concacaf Nations League] final four, they've done things really well and were also in the semifinals of the Gold Cup. Then Ecuador and Venezuela, they're also teams that, respectively, in World Cup qualifying, they're also in a good position."
Group A has reigning champions Argentina with Peru, Chile, and the winners of Canada vs Trinidad and Tobago. Talking about Group D, they have Brazil paired with Colombia, and Paraguay, and will be joined by the Winner of Honduras vs Costa Rica. The Copa America comprises a group stage that will be conducted from June 20 to July 2, which will be followed by quarterfinals from July 4 to July 6, and semifinals on July 9 and July 10. It will have then a third-place match on July 13 and the final on July 14.
