Former Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar expressed his happiness as Virat Kohli smashed his 50th ODI hundred. Kohli broke Tendulkar’s record during India’s CWC’23 semi-final clash against New Zealand on November 15 in Mumbai. Kohli took 106 deliveries to complete his 50th century in the 50-over format. The 35-year-old cricketer smashed nine boundaries and one maximum to add another feather to his hat.

After Kohli’s record-breaking performance, the former cricketer took to Instagram to express his delight. Tendulkar recalled an interesting anecdote adding that he couldn’t be happier that an Indian broke his record. The former batter wrote, “The first time I met you in the Indian dressing room, you were pranked by other teammates into touching my feet. I couldn’t stop laughing that day. But soon, you touched my heart with your passion and skill.”

Tendulkar added, “I am so happy that that young boy has grown into a ‘Virat’ player. I couldn’t be happier that an Indian broke my record. And to do it on the biggest stage - in the World Cup Semi-Final - and at my home ground is the icing on the cake.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Virat Kohli on his 50th century. Modi tweeted, "Today, Virat Kohli has not just scored his 50th ODI century but has also exemplified the spirit of excellence and perseverance that defines the best of sportsmanship." 

He added, "This remarkable milestone is a testament to his enduring dedication and exceptional talent.  I extend heartfelt congratulations to him. May he continue setting a benchmark for future generations."

Kohli took 279 innings for his 50th ton, which also include 71 half centuries. Speaking of his knock, the 35-year-old scored 117 runs off 113 deliveries before getting dismissed off a Tim Southee delivery by the end of the 44th over. During the match, Kohli also completed his eighth half century in the current season of the World Cup.
