The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is intensifying talks around the Indian Premier League (IPL) with franchises working on the list of retentions. However, the BCCI is still to reveal details around the retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, according to recent reports, the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have shortlisted their players list.
If reports are to be believed, CSK are looking forward to retaining five players, including former captain and star wicketkeeper, MS Dhoni. Although a clarity on MS Dhoni’s availability in IPL 2025 remains unclear, according to several reports, his future in the tournament will be decided after BCCI reveals its retention rules.
MS Dhoni to play IPL 2025: Reports
The veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter, MS Dhoni is likely to play his final IPL season next year with Ruturaj Gaikwad taking over the helm in the yellow attire. The 43-year-old is set to be slotted in the lowest payment bracket as per a mutual agreement. If reports are to be believed, along with MS Dhoni, Gaikwad, veteran all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja are also likely to continue with the Chennai-based outfit.
According to reports from RevSportz, CSK is also looking to continue with Shivam Dube along with Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana being the overseas pick.
CSK in IPL 2024
The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finished in fifth place in IPL 2024, having won seven games and losing as many games. With their fifth-place finish, they missed out a place in the playoffs. Their skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad finished as their top-scorer with 583 runs from 14 matches and only second behind Virat Kohli, who won the Orange Cap with 741 runs.
