The Bengal Tigers had initially scheduled three training sessions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium with the first one to be held between 6 pm and 9 pm on Friday, November 3. However, the Air Quality Index rose above 400 in several places in the city and the scheduled session got cancelled. ESPNcricinfo quoted Mahmud as saying, "We actually had a training session today, but due to worsening conditions, we didn't take the chance.”
He added, "We have two more training days. Some of us developed coughing, so there's a risk factor. We don't want to get sick. We don't know if things will improve, but we have training tomorrow. We want all the players to be fit for the important game coming up on November 6."
The rising air pollution in Delhi and Mumbai have become a matter of serious concern for the citizens as well as teams travelling for the mega ICC event. Earlier, the BCCI banned crackers during the remaining matches in these cities. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said, “BCCI is sensitive to environmental concerns. I took up the matter formally with the ICC and there won’t be any fireworks display in Mumbai, which can add to the pollution level.”
