Former Indian coach and commentator Ravi Shastri was deeply disappointed with the English team as they suffered a 100-run loss against India in Lucknow. After a poor batting effort around Rohit Sharma's 89, the Men in Blue posted a 230-run target. Then in the second innings, England's troubles continued as their batters fell apart like nine pins.

No English batter stood tall and allowed the Indian bowling to dominate every facet of their innings. Describing another batting collapse, Ravi Shastri questioned England's 'World Champions' tag. and reasoned his claim by talking about how a team that has lost almost all matches with 15-17 overs to spare doesn't deserve that name. He said, "England have lost almost all matches with 15-17 overs to spare and they are called “World Champions”.
Like Ravi Shastri, England's captain Jos Buttler also expressed disappointment with this result. He talked about how the team seemed confident at the innings break but failed to execute their skills with the bat.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Buttler said, "Very disappointed. At the halfway stage, chasing 230, we fancied ourselves, same old story. I wasn't sure if dew would come or not. We bowled well, took wickets, we would have taken 229. Personally, I wanted to soak some pressure up and then build a partnership and kill the momentum that India had."
"It's about committing and executing your skill. There wasn't scoreboard pressure. We are just falling short whichever way we are doing it. Some top players, we are a long way short of our best. Excellent start in the powerplay, there was a bit of indifferent bounce, the ground fielding was good. It felt like today was the day, but we didn't back it up with the bat. We still got lots to play for," he continued.
