Achinta Sheuli, the Commonwealth Games (CWG) gold medallist weightlifter, got caught by security personnel while trying to scale the wall to enter the women’s hostel at night at the NIS Patiala. Because of this disciplinary breach, the 22-year-old has been expelled by the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWIF) from the preparatory camp for the Paris Olympics.
The incident happened on Thursday night, March 14, at the NIS Patiala, when the security personnel caught Achinta Sheuli trying to enter the women’s hostel at around 10 PM, making a video of the weightlifter. The SAI and NIS Patiala Executive Director, Vineet Kumar, was informed about the incident immediately, and since the video evidence was available, they didn’t constitute an investigating panel for it.
As per the report from Sportstar, the official of the IWLF was quoted as saying about the incident on the condition of anonymity to PTI, “Obviously, such indiscipline will not be tolerated. Achinta was asked to leave the camp immediately.”
Meanwhile, the SAI source said the following about the incident, “The video was sent to NIS Patiala ED Vineet Kumar and the SAI headquarters in New Delhi, and IWLF was asked to remove Achinta from the camp.” It led to the Indian weightlifter, who has set a games record at the Commonwealth in 2022 in Birmingham in men’s 73kg weight class, leaving the Paris 2024 preparatory camp on Friday.
Recently, Jeremy Lalrinnunga, the CWG and Youth Olympics champion, was expelled from the national camp by the IWLF on discipline grounds.
