Dale Steyn, one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, has hailed the speedster Jasprit Bumrah for picking up a bag of wickets on docile Indian pitches. Calling him a “fantastic bowler,” the 40-year-old emphasised how a good yorker, a prominent weapon in Jasprit Bumrah’s arsenal, works in any country because the pitch is out of the equation.
During the second Test in Visakhapatnam between India and England, Jasprit Bumrah picked up nine wickets to help the hosts secure a 106-run victory to level the five-match Test series 1-1. In the first innings, the Indian fast bowler took six wickets to restrict England to a below-par total on a very good batting pitch before dismissing three batters in the second innings to help bowl them out under 300.
In his interaction with the Indian media on the eve of the SA20 final between the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and the Durban Super Giants, Dale Steyn was quoted as saying about Jasprit Bumrah, as per the Times of India, “I don't think there's any Test bowlers right now who are able to run in and bowl essentially wicket-taking yorkers. To take wickets in Test matches, there are probably a handful of guys who could do that. Trent Boult was one of that, Mitchell Starc maybe. And obviously, Bumrah.”
The former South African fast bowler divulged into what Jasprit Bumrah has done well in his international career, and said, “I remember saying ages back that a good yorker bowled in India or South Africa or Australia remains a good yorker because you take the surface out of it, doesn't matter where you bowled it. You take the pitch away and I think that's one thing that he's done really well.”
“All round he's a fantastic bowler. And it's no surprise with his skiddy kind of action that he's got that. He takes wickets on those docile pitches (in India), so he's fantastic,” added Dale Steyn.
