The fourth and final Grand Slam - the US Open 2023 is underway in New York and the players are fighting for the quarterfinals berth as the tournament progresses. On Saturday, September 2, World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz stunned British No. 2 Dan Evans to progress further into the tournament.

 

The Spaniard continued his grit to enter the Round of 16 after getting past Dan Evans in a hard-earned  victory. While the young star took the first two sets with much ease, Evans surprised the crowd at the Arthur Ashe Stadium by taking the third set. However, all the World No. 1 took a comfortable win claiming the fourth set and taking the match 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

 

While the match saw several entertaining moments, one of them was the No. 26 Brit stopping the game and he spotted a random person sitting next to his wag in his box. This bizarre incident took place in the first set, which Evans lost 6-2. The Brummie ace, halted the game as he got distracted and went upto the French umpire Damien Dumusois to signal towards his box.

 

Seeing the unknown person who was spotted wearing a plucky cap and a long-sleeve navy blue top with an accreditation lanyard around his neck saw Dan point out as he said, “The guy in the front is not with me”. “The guy three (rows) up is not with me. With the camera out, he’s not with me,” he further reiterated as reported by The Sun.

In another instance, the World No. 26 British player got under the scanner as he smashed his racquet on the court in frustration. The incident took place during a point in the final set. Just when Evans thought Carlos to have lost a point, the Spaniard showed his incredible court coverage to smash a passing shot down the line to steal the point.

 

The World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will next play Matteo Arnaldi of Italy in the Round of 16 match.
