The former South African captain AB De Villiers took to his YouTube channel to praise Daniel Vettori, the former New Zealand captain, who was appointed as the new head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The 39-year-old mentioned that he is the perfect man to take SRH forward after the franchise got last position on the IPL 2023 points table.

Notably, before the start of the 16th edition of the world’s biggest franchise T20 tournament, many fans and experts considered Sunrisers Hyderabad as one of the favourites to finish inside the top 4. Under the coaching of Brian Lara, who was new to the job in 2023, the Telangana-based franchise had a great overall squad, but they didn’t manage to do any justice to the billing.

Sunrisers Hyderabad finished in 10th place on the IPL 2023 points table, their worst performance in history, with only four wins in 14 matches. It led to the team management taking the drastic step of sacking Brian Lara from the job after just one season, before appointing Daniel Vettori as the new head coach for the next season.

AB De Villiers spoke about the new developments in Sunrisers Hyderabad on his YouTube channel, with regards to the former New Zealand left-arm orthodox spinner. He said, as per India Today, “Daniel Vettori. I played with him, I played against him and I played under him - that’s quite interesting. Dan is going to the Sunrisers Hyderabad as coach. He was the RCB coach few years back when I was playing under him. What an incredible human being, fantastic guy.”

Then, the former South African cricketer talked about how the appointment of Daniel Vettori is going to help Sunrisers Hyderabad perform far better in 2024, in comparison to their performances in the last season in the IPL. The 39-year-old remarked, “He’s always got the players’ best interests at heart and that’s the kind of coach you want. Expect a good season from the Sunrisers. They’ve got a young team and I think Dan is the perfect man to take them forward.”
