Delhi Capitals got back to winning ways after defeating the Rajasthan Royals by 20 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. With this victory, the Capitals have jumped to the fifth spot on the table while the Royals remain second after losing back-to-back games for the first time this season. Talking about the game, Rajasthan won the toss and elected to bowl first and were immediately under pressure.
The DC opening pair of Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel smashed 60 in just 4.2 overs. This aggressive batting approach continued through the remainder of the Delhi innings as the host went on to score 221 thanks to a brilliant finish by Tristan Stubbs. For RR, R Ashwin starred as he picked up 3-24 in four overs.
Chasing this total, Rajasthan didn't have a great start but Sanju Samson held one end up and kept his side in the hunt. Samson built short partnerships with Riyan Parag and Shuhbam Dubey but was eventually dismissed after a brilliant 46-ball 86 which included eight fours and six sixes. After losing their captain, RR's chase was derailed and they fell short by 20 runs. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers with 2-25.
Reacting to this loss, Samson said, "I think we had it in our hands, it was like 11-12 runs per over, it was achievable, these things happen in IPL. Yes, we are doing both the things fine, we will like to stick what the conditions demand, 220 was 10 runs extra to chase, the DC opener came out and did what he does, we still came back well. We have lost three games but all those games have been really tight, we have been playing remarkably well, we have to do some fine-tuning and we need to keep the momentum going."
"Yes and No actually, you have to give credit to someone like Stubbs who batted well against Sandeep, he scored 2-3 sixes extra against my best bowlers who are Yuzi Chahal and Sandeep Sharma. We have lost the game, we have to find out where we lost the game, we need to keep moving."
