Sunrisers Hyderabad continued their blundering run in IPL 2024 after defeating the Delhi Capitals to register their fifth win of the season. This triumph takes the Orange Army to the second spot on the table, behind the Rajasthan Royals, with 10 points from seven games. On the other hand, the Capitals suffered their first defeat after two consecutive wins and went down to seventh spot on the table.
After winning the toss, DC asked Sunrisers to bat first and the 2016 champions gleefully obliged. Continuing its blistering approach, Hyderabad posted the fastest powerplay in IPL history by scoring 125 in six overs on the back of Travis Head's 16-ball half-century. However, Delhi made a short comeback by dismissing Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram.
But Head continued his slogging before getting out at a 32-ball 89 with 11 fours and six sixes. The Aussie departed when the score was 154 in nine overs, SRH persevered to post a massive 267-run total thanks to a brilliant 55 by Shabhaz Ahmed. For DC, Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers with his 4-55 in four overs.
Chasing this mammoth total, Delhi Capitals, despite losing two quick wickets, had a zooming start as newcomer Jake Fraser-McGurk hit a 15-ball half-century before departing at a score of 65 in 18 balls with five fours and seven sixes. But after the youngster's wicket, the wheels came off DC as they lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bundled out for 199 in 19.1 overs, falling short by 67 runs. With the ball, T Natarajan starred for SRH as he picked up four wickets while giving away 19 runs.
