Indian fast bowler Deepak Chahar hasn't reportedly joined the squad for the T20I series in South Africa and hence is set to miss the first game in Durban. Chahar hasn't travelled to South Africa as his father Lokendra Singh Chahar is hospitalised after  suffering a brain stroke on Tuesday, 5 December. 

The 31-year-old’s father was rushed to a hospital in Aligarh and is currently under observation at the Mithraj Hospital.  Chahar was also ruled out of the fifth and final T20I of the series against Australia at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Ahead of the first T20I on December 10, a report by PTI quoted a Board for Control of Cricket in India official confirming Deepak Chahar's absence as he has taken a break to attend to a family member under  hospitalisation. The BCCI official also revealed that his return to the squad is under doubt.

The BCCI official quoted by PTI said: "Deepak hasn't yet joined the team in Durban as a close family member needed urgent hospitalisation. He had taken permission for a break as he needed to attend to his family member. He may or may not join the squad depending on his family member's health in coming days."
