Contradicting the speculations which spread of Delhi Capitals (DC) captain and wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant moving to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, new reports have emerged stating that he is set to be retained, along with all-rounder Axar Patel and off-spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
Sources told IANS that Pant still remains in DC’s hands and is set to be retained alongside Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. The T20 World Cup 2024 winning trio is set to stay with the franchise in the upcoming edition after their crucial performances at the recently concluded tournament in Barbados last month.
One of the renowned sports journalists also took to X (formerly Twitter) to share this update after rumours spread like wildfire of Pant being traded to five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings. “Some #IPLUpdate: Rishabh Pant isn’t going anywhere. He will be part of @DelhiCapitals. Pant, Axar are certain to be retained along with either Tristan Stubbs or Fraser McGurk. The third Indian retention is likely to be K. Yadav,” Kushan Sarkar wrote on X.
It is to be noted that Pant has been with the franchise since 2016 and has been a mainstay in the DC colours, amassing 3284 runs in 111 games. He boasts of an average of 35.31 and a strike rate of 148.93, including a century and 18 fifties.
Prithvi Shaw and David Warner to be released by DC ahead of IPL mega auction: Reports
Furthermore, reports add that the opening duo of Prithvi Shaw and former Australian cricketer, David Warner are set to be released from the franchise’s setup. Both the cricketers had a forgettable outing in the last edition with the bat. Moreover, Warner was forced to sit out due to injury concerns in a few matches too in DC’s campaign in IPL 2024.
Warner could only score 168 runs in eight matches that he played with an average of 21.00 and a strike rate of 134.40. Meanwhile Prithvi Shaw, scored only 198 runs from eight innings averaging 24.75 at a strike rate of 163.63.
