South Africa had a dream start on the field at the Cricket World Cup 2023 as they took the field against Sri Lanka in their World Cup opener at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. After being invited to bat first, South Africa posted 428 runs on the board at the loss of five wickets in the 50 overs.

While the Proteas Men went upto put the highest-ever total in ODI World Cup history, it was three batters who hit a century, one of whom became the fastest 100 in ODI World Cup history. After Bavuma’s early wicket, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen stitched a marathon 204-run partnership. It was Aiden Markram, who took the charge, with the Proteas announcing their intentions.
