Indian batter Shreyas Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third title in the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. However, the IPL winning captain was released by KKR ahead of the mega auction last year. In his recent interview, Iyer opened up that he feels that he didn’t get the recognition for leading his team to the IPL title.

Shreyas Iyer will be seen leading Punjab Kings in the upcoming edition of the IPL in 2025. “I personally felt I didn’t get the recognition I wanted after winning the IPL but at the end of the day, as long as you have self-integrity and you keep doing the right things when no one is watching, that is more important and that is what I kept doing,” Iyer was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

Can Shreyas Iyer lead Punjab Kings to maiden IPL title?

Shreyas Iyer had a great year both as a batter and captain in 2024. He first lead Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title and also contributed with the bat amassing 351 runs in 15 matches. Apart from that, Iyer was also a part of the Mumbai squad that won the Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup last years and also led Mumbai to Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2024. Recently, Iyer has also added an ICC title in his trophy collection after India’s triumph in the Champions Trophy 2025. He finished as the second-highest run scorer of the tournament with 243 runs in five matches.

Now, Shreyas Iyer is set to lead Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2025. The franchise bought him for a whopping INR 26.75 crore in the mega auctions and appointed him as the skipper for the upcoming edition. PBKS, who last qualified for the playoffs in 2014, will hope for Iyer to change their fortunes and lead them to their maiden IPL title.
