In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday, April 1, youngster Digvesh Rathi was handed a fine for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct. The LSG bowler received a fine for his actions as he performed a pumped-up notebook celebration after dismissing Punjab Kings’ batter Priyansh Arya at the score of eight off nine deliveries.

The incident unfolded in the third over of Punjab Kings’ innings. As the Shreyas Iyer-led side were seen chasing the 172-run target, Digvesh Rathi drew the first blood in Priyansh Arya in his very first over. Soon after getting rid of Arya, Rathi ran towards the southpaw and made a gesture of ‘ticking it off the notebook’. The gesture was reminiscent of West Indies’ Kesrick Williams’ celebration.

However, it might be a friendly banter, but the Indian Premier League has reprimanded the youngster for his actions after receiving warning from the umpire of the field. “Digvesh Singh, bowler, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Punjab Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday,” IPL said in its statement said.

“Digvesh Singh admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it further read. In IPL 2024, Harshit Rana was also handed demerit points and was later suspended for multiple instances of his ‘flying kiss’ celebration towards the batter.
