During the match 17th of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Abishek Porel, the wicket-keeper of Delhi Capitals (DC), asked his captain Axar Patel to not opt for DRS on a lbw decision from the umpire. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) superstar MS Dhoni, who was seated inside the dressing room, got spotted on camera calling it “out,” and on the replays, he was proven right.
Notably, the incident happened on the fifth ball of the third over during CSK’s pursuit of 184-run target when Mitchell Starc bowled a yorker at the stumps, which seemingly looked like striking Vijay Shankar on the foot first before the bat. The appeal from DC players was ignored by the umpire before Abishek Porel gave an input that the batter had hit the ball first before it struck his bat, and Axar Patel decided against opting for DRS.
Although the replay showed a completely different picture of the story, which MS Dhoni had predicted moments earlier, calling Vijay Shankar out inside the dressing room. Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc had a bemused reaction to the entire thing, and it led to KL Rahul taking wicket-keeping gloves from Abishek Porel in the next over, making the youngster realise his mistake while taking over the important role for DC.
