Star Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar has been handed 21-month ban after she failed a dope test conducted by the International Testing Agency. The 29-year-old failed the test which was conducted last year in October 2021 in an out-of-competition testing procedure.

The samples which were collected by an independent organisation that manages anti-doping programme if the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) was found to contain Higenamine, which is said to be a prohibited substance under the World Ant-Doping Agency Code.
It is to be noted that her ban will however come to an end in July 10, 2023 as it was counted from the day the samples were obtained (11 October 2021).
Karmakar calls it “end of one of the longest battles fought”
The 29-year-old Indian gymnast took to Twitter on February 4 as she called it “the end of one of the longest battles I have fought”. In a tweet Karmakar disclosed the entire incident as she waits to get back on the floor ahead of some key tournaments ahead.
