The India-Pakistan ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match in Ahmedabad presented an incredible moment between cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar and Waqar Younis. The duo were commentating on the match with former India international Ravi Shastri. The Men in Blue won the toss and elected to bowl first as the Pakistanis got off to steady start.

Coming back to the conversation between Sachin Tendulkar and Waqar Younis, the duo reminisced over the time when they made their debut against each other in the 1989. Further, Ravi Shastri also asked Tendulkar about his early impression of Waqar Younis.
Shastri asked, "Cast your mind back to 1989 when these two were pitted against each other in Test match cricket... were there words exchanged? Did you learn anything from him?"
Reacting to the question, Sachin Tendulkar shared about Waqar Younis was always a tough opponent and joked about how people shouldn't go on Younis' smile which can be deceptive. Tendulkar shared, "Don't go by his smile! He was fiercely competitive."

Before the start of the match, Indian top-order batter Virat Kohli met up with Sachin Tendulkar, who brought out the World Cup trophy ahead of the start of play. Tendulkar and Kohli embraced each other and had a short chat.
