After New Zealand defeated Pakistan by five wickets in their ODI World Cup 2023 clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the Pakistan cricket team have been virtually eliminated from the race to the semi-final. The Men in Green are scheduled to play their final round-robin match of the CWC 2023 against England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, in which they have to win with a handsome margin to have any chance of making the knockout round.

As per the mathematical scenarios for the fourth and final semi-final spot in the ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan has to either defeat England by at least 287 runs or chase down any target in 2.3 overs or less, for qualification. New Zealand are currently ahead of the Men in Green on the points table in fourth position with 10 points and a healthy NRR of 0.743, while they are in fifth position with 8 points and an NRR of just 0.036 with their final round-robin match against England still to play.
Shortly after New Zealand chased down the low score of 172 in just 23.2 overs against Sri Lanka, the social media platform X erupted with a plethora of reactions about the diminishing hopes of Pakistan to make the semi-final of ODI World Cup 2023.
Moreover, Afghanistan is also not officially eliminated from the race to the semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023. But the chances for the Afghans are mathematically less than Pakistan, while they prepare to play against South Africa in their final round-robin match of the CWC 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
