The Durand Cup is an annual domestic football contest started in Shimla in 1888 and is co-hosted by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Durand Football Tournament Society (DFTS). It is also the fifth-oldest national football championship in the world and the oldest club football tournament in Asia. Currently, the competition serves as the start of the Indian football season and any club in one of the top three divisions may enter, and invited guest teams from various branches of the Indian Armed Forces may also participate.
Bengaluru FC are the defending champions as they defeated ISL rivals Mumbai City FC in the 2022 finals. East Bengal FC, on the other hand, are one of the most successful clubs of the tournament, with 17 titles to their name till now.
This will be the 132nd edition of the Durand Cup and will be played in Shillong in Meghalaya and Kokrajhar in Assam for the first time in tournament history along with Kolkata and Guwahati. 28 clubs will be a part of this year’s edition of the Durand Cup, 12 of which belong to the ISL and 11 belong to the I-League and five invitee teams from the Indian Armed Forces will also participate. The tournament will be hosted across four venues, starting from August 3 and will go on till September 3 when the final will be played.
