Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the former multi-time WWE champion and Hollywood megastar, is speculated to return at the SummerSlam 2023 next month, but there is no confirmation about the same from the promotion till now. The 36th annual “The Biggest party of the Summer” is set to happen at the Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan on August 5, Saturday.

For the better part of last decade, The Rock has been tipped to face his cousin Roman Reigns in a one-on-one match in the WWE, which is expected to break all kinds of records for the company. The most favoured destination for this once in a generation encounter has been WrestleMania, “The Showcase of the Immortals.” But, the busy schedule of Dwayne Johnson as a Hollywood actor has meant that this dream is yet to be realised.

While the 51-year-old hasn’t shown up on WWE TV for nearly four years, since a brief appearance on the first edition of SmackDown on FOX in October 2019, his cousin has gone on to dominate the show as the number one champion in the company. Roman Reigns, the number one draft pick on SmackDown, is going to take on his own flesh and blood Jey Uso in a “Tribal Combat,” to defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam.

Notably, Dave Meltzer of the “Wrestling Observer Newsletter,” who is a big name in wrestling journalism, addressed the speculation surrounding The Rock’s potential return to WWE SummerSlam 2023. He said, “I asked if there's gonna be somebody else, and they said 'I don't know, maybe', so who knows?”

“I don't know if Dwayne Johnson will come back, but if he's going to do it for something, it's gonna be for 50,000 fans in Detroit, which is this show. I don't know what he's doing again, I know there's a strike on and everything, but he's always doing something," remarked Dave Meltzer.

Although, there is no confirmation as of yet about The Rock with regards to WWE SummerSlam, but still, if he does make it to the event on August 5, then the Ford Field is surely going to erupt like anyone ever seen before.
