Chelsea begin their EFL Cup 2023-24 journey when they play against League Two outfit AFC Wimbledon at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night in the second round. The Blues have entered the tournament at this stage, while Wimbledon have already beaten Coventry City in round one.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side secured their first win of the Premier League campaign last time out against Luton Town and will be aiming to build on the much-needed victory. They comfortably beat Luton 3-0 with a brace from Raheem Sterling and a goal from Nicholas Jackson. After a disappointing 12th-place finish in the 2022-23 Premier League campaign, Chelsea are entering the second round of the EFL Cup for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
In contrast, Wimbledon is unbeaten in the fourth division and is currently ranked fifth in the standings after winning two and drawing three of their first five matches. The Dons, who advanced to the second round with an impressive victory over Championship team Coventry, will be looking to make another upset and pile on the problems at Chelsea.
