Indian industrialist, business tycoon and a philanthropist, Ratan Tata on Wednesday, October 10 breathed his last in Mumbai. The visionary leader of the country, Ratan Tata’s demise send shockwaves throughout the nation as he passed away aged 86. Known to be a leader of a respected Indian conglomerate, Tata Sons, from 1991 till 2012, Ratan Tata was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Monday for series of medical check-ups.

However, reports of his health condition being critical surfaced soon afterwards, he sought reassurance stating, “There is no cause for concern. I remain in good spirits." But by Wednesday, things seemed to have worsened as reports resurfaced stating that his condition was critical, followed by news of his sudden demise.  On this, Chairman of the Tata Sons, N. Chandrasekaran confirmed his death in a statement which read, “It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation. For the Tata Group, Mr. Tata was more than a chairperson.”

“To me, he was a mentor, guide and friend. He inspired by example. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation, the Tata Group under his stewardship expanded its global footprint while always remaining true to its moral compass,” he further added.  He concluded by expressing condolences on behalf of the entire Tata family by writing, “On behalf of the entire Tata family, I extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones. His legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive to uphold the principles he so passionately championed.”

This moment of grief spread around the country with dignitaries, sports personalities, national leaders, along with several others expressing their condolences on the prized loss of the nation. Former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag was among the firsts from the cricketing fraternity to express his grief as he wrote, “We have lost a true Ratan of Bharat, Shri Ratan Tata ji. His like will be an inspiration for us all and he will continue to live in our hearts. Om Shanti.”

Former Indian cricketer, Venkatesh Prasad also took to X to share his grief on this huge loss as he wrote, “A huge loss to our nation on losing the legend, Shri #RatanTata. Heartfelt condolences to all his admirers across the globe. Om Shanti 🙏🏼💐” Apart from these, several others took to social media to extends condolences on this loss.
