Indian ace bowler Mohammed Shami revealed the conversation the Indian Prime Minister had with the Indian cricket team after a heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup 2023. Shami, who emerged as the leading wicket-taker for the home side, has been missing out of action due to injury. In the ODI World Cup, he bagged the Player of the Tournament for his antics for team India despite missing the first four games in the marquee event. Despite remaining unbeaten throughout the season, the CWC '23 table toppers lost the final to Australia.
After the loss, PM Narendra Modi visited the Indian dressing room and was seen empathising with Men in Blue. Revealing the details of the interaction, Shami told News 18, "When our hearts were broken, we were crying, when we were not even eating, at that point of time, Modiji came. He gave us confidence. He said, 'Bahut accha khele ho aap log, hum aapke saath hai, Pura Bharat aapke saath hai. (You all played really well; we are with you. The entire nation stands with you.)' When you hear such a thing, you feel good.
Not Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma- Mohammed Shami picks best captain
The UP-born pacer revealed the name of the best captain he has played under and it is not Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. When he was asked about revealing the name of the best captain, Shami humbly said that while perspectives may vary, the title of the best captain should be bestowed upon the most successful one.
Shami said, “Everyone has a different perspective on this. When we compare, we tend to favour the one who has achieved the most. In my view, it’s MS Dhoni because no one has been as successful as him.” Not only this, but the fast bowler also expressed his admiration for Virat Kohli.
