The much-awaited Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 kickstarted in the Asian continent from February 17, Saturday. While the opener saw Islamabad United stun Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore by eight wickets, the match was also a witness of some conspiracy.
The Shadab Khan-led Islamabad United won the toss and invited the defending champions to bat first. The Shaheen Shah Afridi-led side 195/5 in the 20 overs with half-centuries from Sahibzada Farhand (57) and Rassie van der Dussen (71*), the spectators hogged the limelight for their chants around the only Pakistan’s ODI World Cup winning captain, Imran Khan.
The entire stadium joined in to raise chants for Imran Khan, who is currently serving his jail sentence in various cases. In the video going viral, fan chanted, “Tera yaar mera yaar, qaidi number 804.”

Speaking of the tournament opener, the Shadab Khan-led United chased the 196-run target comfortably in 18.2 overs to get off to a brilliant start in the competition. While the defending champions will now take on Quetta Gladiators in Match 4 of PSL 2024 at the Gaddafi Stadium on February 19, the Islamabad United will take on Multan Sultans on February 20 at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan.
