Rajat Patidar is set to lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the IPL 2025 season to begin in March, announced the RCB team management on Thursday. After Faf du Plessis’ exit, the Bengaluru-based side needed a skipper and the team management showed faith in the 31-year-old’s leadership prowess. Patidar has an impressive captaincy background as he led his domestic team Madhya Pradesh from 2019 to 2024.
Back in the 2021 IPL auction, Patidar became a part of the Challengers for just INR 20 lakh. However, his best came in 2022 after he played a match-winning knock of 112 (54) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the playoffs game held at the iconic Eden Gardens. Riding on his exceptional batting display, Bengaluru claimed a 14-run win.
RCB supporters congratulate their new skipper
Rajat Patidar’s unprecedented elevation in RCB has received missed reactions on X. Some RCB fans are trusting their team management’s decision while a few supporters expressed discontent over the right-handed batter’s promotion as they were expecting veteran Virat Kohli to be back in the captaincy role. A few fans also hailed Patidar’s majestic journey from a player to skipper of the illustrious IPL side. Amidst these developments, Bengaluru will look to be at their best in the upcoming IPL season, under their new skipper to win their maiden title.
