The sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) got underway on Friday (31 March) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the opening fixture to kick off the cash-rich league. As it was the first game of the season, fans were treated to some delightful performances from Bollywood stars during the opening ceremony.
Apart from that, a drone show and a light show were also organized to make the fans’ experience at the venue even more enriching. While thousands of fans enjoyed all of this from different parts of the stadium, a few fans got special treatment as they have premium tickets. One of those fans shared glimpses of his experience in these Premium Suites.
In the video shared, it can be seen that a special buggy comes to pick him and he is then given a seat at a premium place in the stadium. The view from the Premium Suite looks astonishing. As the video went viral on social media, GT cricketer Shubman Gill also shared his thoughts. Gill left a comment on the social media post wherein he said, “Sahi hai bhai. Hame toh chal kar jana padta hai”.
Notably, a huge number of fans turned up to watch the opening fixture of IPL 2023 from the stadium. Not just at the stadium, fans also joined from their homes. Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the tournament shared the viewership numbers on the opening day of the tournament.
“The Verdict is Out. Disney Star hit the ball out of the ground on Opening Day of Tata IPL 2023. 140 million fans watched 10.5 billion minutes of Star Sports' Live broadcast,” tweeted Star Sports.
Meanwhile, Viacom18, the streaming rights holder for the IPL claimed that it recorded a peak concurrency of 1.6 crores on the opening day, while 6 crore viewers watched the match.
