During the highly pulsating UEFA Europa League (UEL) clash at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in Istanbul, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho got a straight red card from the referee Clement Turpin for his excessive penalty appeal versus Manchester United. The incident happened in the second half of the match when Jose Mourinho got a bit overzealous in demanding a penalty, prompting the referee to send him to the stands.

In the first half, Manchester United took the 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when Christian Eriksen found the roof of the net, smashing the perfect layoff pass from Joshua Zirkzee in the final third. At the start of the second half, Youssef En-Nesyri levelled the scoreline at 1-1 in the 49th minute with a towering header, converting a inch perfect pass from Allan Saint-Maximin from the left wing into a goal.

Before the hour mark, Jose Mourinho was shown a red card by referee Clement Turpin after a heated moment on the touchline regarding a penalty incident for Fenerbahce. After the conclusion of the match at 1-1 scoreline, when Jose Mourinho was asked about it, he was quoted as saying, “He (Clement Turpin) told us something incredible. He told that at the same time he could see the action in the box and my behaviour on the touchline.”

“I congratulate him because he is absolutely incredible, his peripheral vision. During the game, 100 mph, he had one eye on the penalty situation, and he had one eye on the bench and my behaviour. So that's the explanation he gave me. That's why he's one of the best referees in the world,” a sarcastic Jose Mourinho stole the show.

With this drawn game, Fenerbahce find themselves in 14th place with five points in three matches, while Manchester United are in 21st place with three points in three matches in the UEFA Europa League standings.
