The 16th edition of the Asia Cup 2023 is set to commence on August 30, Wednesday, with the season opener to be played between Nepal and Pakistan. The seven-time Asia Cup winners, India will begin their campaign on September 2, Saturday, by taking on Pakistan in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

With an intent to win the eighth Asia Cup title, the BCCI announced a 17-player squad on August 21, Monday. With the upcoming tournament, there will be a few names that will make their comeback in the ODI format, with someone making their debut in it. However, there will be some players who will play their last ODI Asia Cup this year. Let’s have a look at five names who might not be seen in the next Asia Cup in ODI format.

1. Rohit Sharma

The Indian skipper  Rohit Sharma  is the first name that might be playing his last Asia Cup this year. The star Indian opener was given responsibility of the Indian side when the former skipper Virat Kohli decided to step down from the role. Sharma has time and again proved himself and displayed his brilliant skills in times when India needed it the most.

Nominated for the ‘Player of the Series’ award for his five tons in the 2019 World Cup, things started going downhill for him after he took on the captaincy role. Since then, the Mumbai Indians star has found it difficult to strike a balance between his batting and handling the team.

The Maharashtra-born is already 36 years old, and he might contemplate drawing curtains on his international career in a year or two.
