WV Raman, the former Indian cricketer and head coach of women’s national team, has given a suggestion to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), to rope in Sachin Tendulkar as a batting consultant for the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series against Australia. The 59-year-old stated that the Indian batters could benefit immensely from the presence of Sachin Tendulkar in the dressing room, while stating that the appointment of consultants is common these days.
In the build-up to the BGT Test series, the Indian batting lineup has struggled immensely as a unit during the three-match series at home against New Zealand. They were bundled out for 46 and 156 runs in the first innings of the first two Test matches in Bengaluru and Pune in contrasting conditions, while led to a defeat in these games before their improved batting performance in Mumbai didn’t prove to be enough either, which led to them losing the series 0-3.
Team India could benefit if they have the services of Sachin Tendulkar as the batting consultant: WV Raman
With a lot of pressure on the Indian batting lineup currently, to deliver the goods in tough batting conditions of Australia, WV Raman made a unique suggestion about appointing Sachin Tendulkar as the batting consultant. He wrote on X, “I think that #TeamIndia could benefit if they have the services of #Tendulkar as the batting consultant in their prep for the #BGT2025. Enough time between now and the 2nd test. Roping in consultants is rather common these days. Worth a thought? #bcci #Cricket”.
Notably, the Indian coaching setup already has Gautam Gambhir as head coach, who boasts tons of experience in the batting side of things, while assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are decent batters in their own right. As far as Sachin Tendulkar’s credentials in the coaching side of things is concerned, he has been a part of the Mumbai Indians setup in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the mentor role after retiring from the sport nearly 11 years ago.
