The two big teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) went head-to-head on Sunday. It was a clinical win for the Bangalore-based franchise as they beat MI by eight wickets. Batting first, MI posted 171/7 on the board in their designated 20 overs. Tilak Varma was the star for MI as the southpaw scored a 46-ball 84*.
However, Mumbai Indians bowlers looked clueless against the RCB opening pair of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. The two batters scored half-centuries and put together 148 runs for the first wicket. While Plessis got out after scoring 73, Kohli finished the game for RCB with a six over long-on.
With RCB registering a clinical win, the team’s fans were all over the opposition. Meanwhile, MI fans tried to look at the positives from the game. Former MI player, Mitchell McClenaghan who is quite active on Twitter shared a couple of positives for MI.
“Positive Note.@mipaltan have never won a championship after winning the first game. Second Positive in general. How good is it to see games being played in Home grounds! Love it @IPL is back!” tweeted McClenaghan. Former New Zealand cricketer, Scott Styris, took a cheeky dig at McClenagahn as he replied, “Another positive note... Mumbai has also finished last when they didn't win their first match.”
McClenagahan was prompt to give it back to Styris as he wrote, “On another positive note - on two occasions Mumbai beat CSK in the final and on a 3rd occasion beat CSK dressed as Pune” while quoting Styris’ tweet.
With the two former teammates getting involved in a banter, a CSK fan stepped in and asked McClenaghan why he was so annoying. The former Kiwi was in no mood to take anything as he replied “Coz you don’t have a sense of humour”. While all of this was going on, a Virat Kohli fan called McClenaghan unemployed and the former pacer was not pleased at all.
As the user wrote, “Nice To See An Unemployed With Perfect Sense of Humour,”, McClenaghan gave a savage response. “Nice to see another fake account with a Kholi PFP,” replied the former MI player.
He also explained why he misspelt Virat Kohli’s name. “Exactly the rip off Kohli. Like when you get the fake designer brands - spelling is always different hahaha,” tweeted McClenaghan when a fan pointed out the mistake.
