Argentinian F1 star Franco Colapinto has signed a multi-year deal with Alpine to become their reserve driver, which means that he will be leaving Williams after being their development driver last season. Following his arrival to the Williams F1 team in the middle of the last season in place of Logan Sargeant, the 21-year-old drove for them in nine races, finishing in the points in Azerbaijan and the US Grand Prix.

Notably, as per the report from BBC Sport, Alpine have managed to negotiate a deal for Franco Colapinto, to have him removed from his long-term contract with the Williams, where he had replaced Logan Sargeant in the second half of last F1 season. After signing Carlos Sainz from Ferrari for the upcoming 2025 season, to partner up with Alex Albon, Williams had no place for Franco Colapinto to race for them this year.

It is time for a new chapter, and to take on this challenge with Alpine is truly an honour: Franco Colapinto

In his first comment after joining Alpine, Franco Colapinto thanked Williams for making his F1 dream come true before looking forward to the new challenge with his new team in the upcoming season of racing. He was quoted as saying, “Williams turned my dream of racing in F1 into reality, and I will always be grateful for that. Now, it is time for a new chapter, and to take on this challenge with Alpine is truly an honour.”

The executive adviser to Alpine, Flavio Briatore spoke about Franco Colapinto after they signed him on a multi-year deal from Williams. He remarked, “Clearly, Franco is among the best young talents in motorsport right now. It is fair to say his appearance on the F1 grid last year caught many, me included, by surprise and his performances have been very impressive for a rookie driver.”

Meanwhile, Williams F1 team team principal James Vowles showcased his support for Franco Colapinto in his journey as an F1 driver, and called him a deserving candidate for a place on the grid.
