Suyash Sharma has been a revelation in the Kolkata Knight Rides side this season as he came out of nowhere and became a regular in this KKR playing 11. The teenager recently opened up about his own story in a video posted by IPL’s Twitter handle where he talks about a number of things right from his long hair to how he builds his perfect legspinner.
At the beginning of the interview, Suyash jokingly says that he wants to keep his hair routine a ‘secret’ before getting into his U19 story where he was rejected during the trials. Suyash said, “The list came late at night and I was already asleep. I woke up at 3 am and saw the list. From 3 am to 5 am, I just cried.” He then went on to talk about he was playing well but wasn’t getting selected for the team. After being heartbroken about the selection, he focused on improving his skills with the ball.
Thereafter Suyash Sharma was asked to name one bowler who bowled each of the given deliveries the best. For the googly, Sharma picked Rashid Khan while for the flipper he picked Shane Warne. Whereas for a legspinner and the ability to flight the ball, he picked Rajasthan Royals’ Yuzvendra Chahal. For mystery spin, the teen picked his teammate Varun Chakravarthy and for big heart Sharma picked himself. He went on to tell the story of when he found out that he was picked for KKR for IPL 2023 after a U25 game and an emotional moment with his father.

Prior to the IPL auction in December, Suyash flew down to Mumbai to the KKR academy for trials. At the 2022 IPL auction, Suyash was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a sum of Rs 20 lakh. The franchise CEO Venky Mysore gave credit to the team scouts, who spotted him in a U25 match in New Delhi.
On his IPL debut, the KKR leggie picked up three wickets for 30 runs against RCB. Suyash has red ball dreams as he is yet to play a first-class game and this IPL experience will surely help him catch the eyeballs of selectors. The 19-year-old has no List A or first-class experience but has managed to have an excellent IPL season so far with 10 wickets in eight matches and an economy of 8.
