Gary Neville, the Manchester United legend, is set to visit India to support the grassroots football programme called the “United We Play,” backed by the English giants. The 49-year-old, who is widely regarded as the greatest right-backs ever to play the game, will be in action in the grand finale of the fourth edition of the United We Play programme in Chandigarh on next Friday, October 18.
During his illustrious club career with Manchester United, which lasted for nearly 20 years, Gary Neville, the one-club man, made 602 appearances, and won a whopping eight Premier League and two UEFA Champions League titles among other trophies. He also was an integral part of England’s football team for more than 12 years, making 85 appearances, which included matches in the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship.
The fourth edition of the United We Play programme was launched by Louis Saha in December 2023
As far as the fourth edition United We Play programme, which was launched in Kolkata last year by Louis Saha, a total of 18 cities in India were tapped, and more than 15,000 youngsters footballers were positively impacted, as per the report from NDTV Sports. There were more than 100 coaches from the Manchester United Soccer Schools giving virtual training sessions to the youngsters, helping them showcase their skills and motivate them to continue playing the beautiful game apart from giving them global training exposure.
Rajesh Dahiya, the Vice President, Commercial, India and SAARC, Apollo Tyres Ltd, who are sponsoring the United We Play programme, spoke about the arrival of Gary Neville to the Indian shores. He was quoted as saying, “We are thrilled and honoured to welcome a player of the stature of Gary Neville to India. His presence will surely elevate the experience for young budding footballers who will be a part of the United We Play finals in Chandigarh, inspiring young athletes with his illustrious journey in the sport and offering insights into his storied career.”
