India skipper Rohit Sharma opened up on the coaching style of newly appointed head coach of Indian men’s team Gautam Gambhir and his staff. Sharma addressed the media ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh. India are set to kick off their Test season with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh on September 19 in Chennai. Following Bangladesh, they will be up against New Zealand and Australia.

Ahead of the first match beginning on Thursday, Sharma talked about several topics including the coaching style of newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir. Notably, Gambhir, who succeeded Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the team after the T20 World Cup 2024, will be making his Test debut from the series.

Gautam Gambhir’s coaching style is different but there is no problem: Rohit Sharma

On September 17, Sharma addressed the media, where he spoke about several topics including the difference in the coaching style of Rahul Dravid and Gambhir. While he said that there is a difference, Sharma went on to assure that there is no problem in it. The 37-year-old batter said, "Obviously, Rahul bhai, Vikram Rathour (former batting coach), and Paras Mhambrey (former bowling coach) had different approaches, and it's only natural for a new support staff to bring in fresh perspectives.”

Sharma added, "New coaching staff has different style but there is no problem. Good understanding is important, and I have that with Gambhir.”

Worked with many coaches, each brought their own unique perspective: Rohit Sharma

The Indian captain went on to say that he has worked with several coaches during his career and each of them brought their own experiences. Not only this, but he also emphasised on his long-standing relationship with Gambhir and Nayar and said that it has built a comfortable working environment. Notably, Abhishek Nayar took on the role of assistant coach in Gautam Gambhir-led coaching management.

Sharma said, “I've known Gautam and Abhishek for a long time, and every coaching team has its own style. Over my 17-year career, I've worked with many different coaches, each bringing their own unique perspective, and it's important to adapt to those differences." After the first Test in Chennai, the caravan will move to Green Park in Kanpur.
